With the kind permission of Historic Scotland we celebrate the eight major Pagan festivals at the Ring of Brodgar. We usually design a ritual around those provided by the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids. Wherever possible, we celebrate on the day of the festival or as near as possible giving preference to Saturdays and Tuesdays. We are careful not to choose times when the moon would be void of course.
Anyone with a warm heart and open mind is very welcome to join us, or even just interested observers, to any of these events.
Here are the dates for 2013:
Due to other committments, the first open ritual we will perform in 2013 at Brodgar will be at Beltaine at the beginning of May.
Here are the remaining dates for 2013: Midsummer on Friday 21 June about 3am (dawn is about 3.20am but first light is at 1am) - no social after, but going straight back home to sleep after greeting the sun at its zenith!Lammas / Lughnassad on Thursday 1 August about 6pm - with a social / moot afterwards at the Standing Stones Hotel, StennessAutumn Equinox on Sunday 22 Sept about 2pm - with a social / moot afterwards at the Standing Stones Hotel, StennessMidwinter Solstice on Saturday 21 Dec about 1pm - with a social / moot afterwards at the Standing Stones Hotel, Stenness
Please note that the dates and times have been chosen in order to try to have the site at a relatively quiet time.
We have always felt that Samhain (Thursday 31 October 2013) is a private and introspective ritual (rather than a public, open one) and we would like to invite folk to join us at The Standing Stones Hotel, Stenness, in the evening, for meditations, readings, and good company - please contact us for more details
We have decided not to continue with the Moots for the foreseeable future - we may start them up again as the weather warms, and socials after rituals are always appreciated. However, if you are a Pagan visting Orkney, please email and we will be pleased to meet up with you if we are available. Pagans in Orkney are always welcome to contact us for a blether and a cuppa at any time!!!
Helen is a Scottish Tourist Guide Association Green Badge Guide for Orkney - so is ALWAYS happy to provide advice on best places to visit in Orkney AND is available for hire as a tourist guide.
Email us for more information or join our Moot egroup or join Orkney Pagans on FaceBook!
Looking forward to seeing you!
