We consider ourselves to be highly honourable people and we believe that if we provide an excellent service for our couples, then we also honour our Pagan paths, The Scottish Pagan Federation, and Orkney. This is why we will do everything in our power to ensure that your ceremony goes ahead as planned and that we perform your ritual to your instructions and in accordance with Scottish Law. However, sometimes the unexpected does happen and, in choosing to use our service, we ask all couples to be aware that Orkney is a remote place and, although we always do our best, it is impossible to mitigate for all possibilities. We do try to allow for unforeseen circumstances, however - for example, in the event of Helen being unavoidably unable to act as legal Celebrant, we have an arrangement with a (Pagan) Unitarian who may be able to step in at short notice to perform your ritual instead.
However, as Orkney is such a remote place, and to protect both our couples and ourselves, we ask all couples to sign a straightforward contract which clearly sets out what all parties should expect from each other – this practice is common to other SPF Celebrants. In essence, our contract asks all couples to agree that the limit of our liability is to return to you any monies paid to us by you.
We will not require any funds from you until we have agreed with you that we are the best people to perform your wedding, and your wedding plans are possible, and we have discussed what you require, and stated the likely total fee due to us. We will make it clear what our fee includes and what it does not include. If you wish to then book a date, we will require a non-returnable deposit of £50 and it is at this stage that we will ask you to sign our contract.
All our rituals and ceremonies have a fee based on our preparation time and attendance time which we are happy to explain to you. For a legal wedding, the remaining fee is usually an additional £100-£200, depending on the amount of ritual writing and rewriting involved and our anticipated attendance time. To perform a rehearsal, the fee is usually an additional £50-£100.
If we need to incur travel expenses we will require these to be paid in advance of us booking travel arrangements; we will endeavour to use our islander travel discounts wherever possible to keep costs to a minimum. We require the remainder of our fees to be paid, as cleared funds, at least six weeks prior to your wedding date. We accept cheques in UK £ sterling.
To ensure that everything goes according to your plans and to minimise misunderstandings, we recommend that you plan ahead and communicate with us as much as possible, we will do likewise with you.
