Orkney Pagan Weddings are just one of the many services offered by our partnership: Spiritual Orkney. All of the services which we offer are managed, created and performed by us, in person: Helen and Mark Woodsford-Dean.
We live in West Mainland Orkney, within view of the World Heritage Site at Brodgar, and have both been practicing Pagans for about 20 years. In April 2008 we got married at the Ring of Brodgar with Louise Park (Scottish Pagan Federation Celebrant) officiating. The two colour photographs at the bottom of this page are of our own wedding. We moved to Orkney in summer 2009.
We are the Scottish Pagan Federation (SPF) Local Organisers for Orkney and we are the SPF Interfaith Officers for Orkney, being active members of an interfaith group. In addition we facilitate open rituals for the eight major Pagan festivals at The Ring of Brodgar, all of which are open to anyone with a warm heart and open mind – more information on our Open Rituals page.
We are both approved Celebrants for the SPF and we offer life rituals for the Pagan community whom we serve. We are two of only about a dozen Celebrants in Scotland holding a licence from National Records of Scotland to conduct legally binding Pagan wedding ceremonies.

Helen is also known as 'Magpie'. Her background is in hedgewitchcraft, but she is also an initiated Wiccan and is undertaking training through the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids, at Ovate grade. She has been trained in shamanic practice through the Scandinavian Centre for Shamanic Studies and has qualified as a herbal practitioner. She is a qualified archaeologist and teacher, and a published author (Iceni a novel about Boudicca, plus a variety of articles, many reproduced in her Blog). Helen is Service Assured trained which states her commitment to delivering and excellent level of service (this training is recommended by Visit Scotland).
Mark and Helen are both Scottish Tourist Guide Association Green Badge Guides for Orkney and offer a tourist guiding service through their partnership Spiritual Orkney.
Mark is also known as 'Greycrow'. His background is a combination of Druidry and shamanism, and he is currently undertaking training through the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids, at Druid grade, and also with Twobirds at Anam Cara, Inverness. He has also trained with the Scandinavian Centre for Shamanic Studies. In addition, Mark is an initiated Wiccan. He is qualified as an arborist, health care professional and archaeologist.
As a requirement of our past and present employments, we have both had CRB and Disclosure Scotland tests carried out on us at enhanced level in the previous 9 years and were cleared then to work in education and health-care respectively. Since then, the naughtiest thing that either of us have done is to return the occasional library book back late!
We are both experienced in composing and performing different styles of ritual and ceremony, including ones from most of the major strands of modern Paganism and ones which combine themes. We can assist you in producing a ceremony that meets your exact and personal requirements. We are also able to lend ritual tools, such as a sword or broomstick, which might otherwise be difficult for you to transport to Orkney.
We look forward to helping you to create the wedding (or other ritual) of your dreams!
This website is very much just to provide preliminary information and to let you know that this service is available, as well as to give you a brief overview of procedures and costs BUT we fully appreciate that all weddings are personal and your wedding is special, so we will do the majority of communication with you individually and in person, either by email or telephone - it's all part of our service!
The black-and-white photographs at the top of this page were taken by Jeff Kuipers (www.transformationproject.co.uk).
The colour photographs at the bottom of this page are of our own wedding in 2008, with Louise Park officiating and Suzi Lee as photographer.
